An Immersion programme means more English

You already know that a few hours of class per week is not enough. But even a few hours of class each morning, if you spend the rest of the day in your own language, is still not enough. An intensive course will give you a few more hours of class time, but what about the rest of the day!

An English immersion course works differently. At MovingOn Courses, you are in English all day, every day – and most of that time is spent with your teachers.

What Makes a True English Immersion Course?

An intensive English course gives you more classroom hours. An English immersion course gives you more English — period. At MovingOn Courses, you don’t travel to a classroom, study for a few hours, and then return to your hotel to switch back into your own language. You live with the owner-teachers in their home. You eat with them. You take study trips with them. From 8am to 10pm, English is the only language in use.

The result is around 12 hours of real English practice every day — not just in class, but at the breakfast table, in the kitchen, on trips along the Northern Irish coast, and at dinner each evening. Over the course of a week, that is the equivalent of months of conventional study.

Who Is This Course For?

MovingOn Courses is designed specifically for adults. The average age of our students is 42. Most are working professionals — managers, executives, lawyers, doctors, engineers — who need better English for their careers and have realised that conventional courses are no longer moving them forward.

Our students come primarily from Spain, Italy, France, and Saudi Arabia, though we welcome learners from any country. The common thread is not nationality or profession — it is seriousness. Our students are committed to making real progress in a short time. If you are looking for a party atmosphere or a large group social experience, this is not the right course. If you want to leave with noticeably better English and the confidence to use it at work, you are exactly who we built this for.

A Typical Day on the English Immersion Course.

Morning classes run from 8:30am with a maximum of 4 students per class — though the average is just 2. Your teachers come to Princetown Guesthouse, which means no travel time and no wasted energy. Classes are adapted to your specific needs: your level, your professional vocabulary, your weak points.

Lunch is taken with your teachers. There is a whiteboard in the kitchen. Conversation is guided but relaxed — this is still learning, just without the formality of the classroom. Students who review our course consistently describe mealtimes as one of the most valuable parts of their week.

Afternoon study trips take you out into Bangor and the surrounding area — local businesses, cultural sites, countryside. These are not tourist excursions. They are structured learning experiences with a teacher, focused on using English in real situations, followed by vocabulary review.

Dinner continues in the same spirit. A longer meal, more conversation, more English. By the time you go to bed, you have had somewhere between 10 and 14 hours of English that day — far more than any classroom course can provide.

“Before I decided to attend this immersion course I had expected really intensive English lessons but still, it really exceeded my expectations. It was truly an immersion course — about 12 hours of English a day.”
— Jakub Parys, Student

Class Sizes That Are Genuinely Small

Most language academies advertise “small classes” with 8 to 15 students. At MovingOn Courses, the maximum class size is 4. The average is 2.2 students per class. In practice, this means you are receiving something very close to one-to-one teaching, within a group dynamic that still gives you the listening and conversation practice that solo tutoring cannot.

One-to-one classes are also available as an option, either as a replacement for group classes or as a supplement for specific needs such as Business English, exam preparation, or professional presentations.

Living With the Owner-Teachers: Why It Matters

At MovingOn Courses, Sonia and Gavin are not directors who manage teachers from a distance. They are the teachers. They live at Princetown Guesthouse. They cook the meals, join the study trips, and are present from breakfast to the end of the evening. When you book this course, you are booking direct, personal access to the people who built it and care most about whether it works.

This structure is what makes the quality guarantee meaningful. There is no head office. No franchise. No risk that your week will be run by a rotating staff member who does not know the programme. Sonia and Gavin are there, every week, for every student.

“Sonia and Gavin are teachers and owners. It means that students are completely involved in an all-inclusive English experience, from breakfast to dinner.”
— Antonio D’Ermo, Student

What Does the English Immersion Course Include?

The price of your course covers everything. There are no hidden extras, no supplementary fees, and no surprises on arrival.

Included in every course: full-board accommodation at Princetown Guesthouse (your own room with private bathroom), all meals with teachers from breakfast to dinner, morning classroom sessions (17.5 hours per week, with teachers consistently delivering more), afternoon study trips (2 per week outside summer, 3 per week in July and August), all teaching materials, and ongoing feedback and correction throughout every activity — not just in the classroom.

The only costs not included are your travel to Bangor and any optional one-to-one supplement if you choose to add private classes.

English Immersion Courses in Summer — and All Year Round

Summer is our busiest and most popular time. Classes run every week from July through August, with three study trips per week included rather than the usual two. If you are planning a summer course, book early.

That said, MovingOn Courses runs every week of the year except for a long winter break. Many of our students are working professionals who cannot travel in summer. September, October, and the spring months are quieter, which means even smaller classes and more personal attention. Whenever you can come, we are open.

How Does the Price Compare?

Premium English immersion programmes at established European centres such as Ceran (Belgium and France) charge between £2,500 and £4,000 per week before extras, plus VAT. Riversdown House in the UK charges at a similar level.

MovingOn Courses charges £1,470 for one week and £2,785 for two weeks, all-inclusive, no VAT surprises. You receive a comparable or superior immersion experience – smaller class sizes, owner-teacher contact, and full community integration – at roughly half the price or less.

We do not compete on price alone. We compete on results. But we see no reason why serious adult learners should pay twice as much for the same outcome.

What Students Say About the Immersion Experience.

“
I studied for two months with MovingOn Courses. I was surprised to see that all the students spoke English all the time. This did not happen on my last English course. Sonia, Gavin and all the teachers are patient and encourage you to speak as much as possible – with lots of corrections too! They adapted to my diet without any problems. A great experience that I would recommend to anyone.”

“I’ve been here for three months during the corona virus lockdown, and I can tell you MovingOn courses is more than just an English academy, It’s a lifetime experience and once you enter this house it’s definitely going to be your second family.
At lunch (the same format also for the dinner) is when the real english starts, you will eat with Sonia and Gavin talking about casual topics like news, life, hobbies. There isn’t any better way to use what you’ve just learned, and don’t worry they will always help you, correct and explain your mistakes, just speak and even when you think you have nothing to say they are so amazing in giving you everyday new stimulus!
Sonia is a great cook, the food is always delicious (i’m italian and I have quite high standard) and if you any preference just tell her without problem.
Once a week when the lunch/dinner is over you have to give a little presentation (about whatever topic you fancy) in front of the teachers and the other students, which will challenge your english skills and it’ll train yourself speaking to a little audience.
After lunch, it’s time to begin the study trip, the teachers will bring you to visit interesting places in the area, and again the learning never stops because every place is a good place to learn new vocabulary, and when you learn something in a particular situation that you are in, it’s even more effective! Before returning at home a stop at the cafe or a typical Irish pub will conclude the study trip, here you will play with the new vocabulary in order to revise in a funny way.
Finally if you aren’t exhausted yet after dinner there are also other activities that you can do like visit one of the several pubs in Bangor, go to the cinema (On Tuesday there are cheap tickets) or just hang out with other students and keep practicing.

“You can choose between filling in next exercises in your textbook to the end of your life or you can go to Bangor and try to your English ;-). Is this course for you?
– If you can’t study English in English or if you are not up to switching your mind to deferent language and culture, no, it’s not for you.
– If you want classes in your native language and in your native country, no, this course is not for you.
– If your main reason of studying this language is passing exams, I think, still it’s not for you.
But if you wish spur on yourself to gain more in short time and you are ready for full immersion in English language and British culture, yes, it’s for you.
I’ve spent in Bangor one week and I appreciate effects. Of course, it’s not that it boosted my level to next stage. But it gave me more accuracy and confidence in speaking. It opened my eyes for key ingredients of natural language (not thousands of details or archaic expressions). In my opinion, the main benefit of such course is improvement of communication skills: mostly speaking and listening.

“I decided to go to moving on course after watching  a video on you tube about other students. I liked the idea of living all day with my teachers and to have some extra study trips. The combination study and fun convinced me to try the experience.
I tried it for one week. Finally I stayed there three weeks just  because I had previous job commitments to manage in Italy. Although I would have stayed there more.
Gavin and Sonia are really professional and prepared and welcoming. I felt as if I was at home. I really like that  In this course you never stop learning even when you aren’t taking lesson. Also, when we were eating we didn’t t stop learning because we were always talking with them and other students in English. There is a whiteboard in every room!
The study trips were exciting and fun and all this was still learning time.
They were really professional and capable to make us talk without us knowing and in this way I improved my skills.
The activities that we did were various and unique. we had the opportunity to meet lots of people speaking native English and to talk with them.
The other teachers  in the school were super professional and prepared too.
The cook Sonia was flawless. Every day she prepared wonderfull meals for us delicious and different.
It was a really relaxing and open minding experience. Very useful end enjoyable. And a fantastic way to improve your English.  I really recommend the course and I recommend trying their method.
I m sure I will repeat the experience.
For me it was a unique experience.
Thank you Sonia and Gavin.
I enjoyed your course and hospitality a lot.
